Back to the Grind

From the Brain of a First Responder

Officially home from vacation. Bags are unpacked, routine is creeping back in, and in a few hours I’m heading back in for my first shift.

Vacation always feels like stepping into another world for a minute. Slower pace. Different headspace. Then you come back and the brain flips right back into “alright… let’s do this again.”

I’ve been trying to keep something from vacation going though: actually slowing my brain down for a few minutes a day.

I’ve been focusing on meditation lately and using Insight Timer. If you’re someone whose brain runs like a diesel engine that never shuts off, it’s worth checking out.

One I’ve been using the last few nights is the sleep meditation “Drift to Sleep” by Andy Hobson. I’m not usually the meditation type, but I’ll give credit where it’s due… this one actually works. I’ve been using it for a few days now and it knocks my brain down a few gears enough to actually fall asleep instead of laying there replaying random nonsense.

So here we go. Back at it.

To everyone on shift tonight or heading in soon, I hope it’s quiet.

…hahaha just kidding. We all know how that goes.

Either way, I hope everyone has a solid weekend.

Here’s to the grind for the next 24 hours.
